July 8, 2006 "Promiscuous" by Nelly Furtado goes to #1 for the first of six weeks. It features the red-hot producer Timbaland, who goes back and forth with Furtado on the song as they play out a flirtation in a club. Furtado says it's a positive song, with the girl letting the guy run his best game and then deciding if he's up to her standards.

June 4, 2006 Orson's Bright Idea hits #1 on the UK albums chart.

June 4, 2006 Sandi Thom's "I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair)" hits #1 on the UK singles chart.

June 3, 2006 Red Hot Chili Peppers' Stadium Arcadium hits #1 on both the UK and US albums charts.

June 1, 2006 The UK Albums chart turns 50 years old, and in a survey by the book of British Hit Singles and Albums and NME, Definitely Maybe by Oasis is voted the greatest album of all time. The Beatles come in second and third place with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Revolver; OK Computer by Radiohead is fourth and (What's the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis comes in fifth.

April 15, 2006 "Be Without You" by Mary J. Blige remains at #1 on the R&B chart for its 15th week, breaking the record of 14 weeks set the previous year by Mariah Carey with "We Belong Together."

February 25, 2006 The Curious George soundtrack becomes the first from an animated movie since Pocahontas in 1995 to hit #1 in America. The songs, including the popular track "Upside Down," are written and performed by Jack Johnson.

November 26, 2005 Chris Brown, 16, dashes to #1 with his first single, "Run It!" He quickly becomes a superstar with gaudy sales numbers despite persistent legal problems.

November 20, 2005 Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor album becomes her ninth UK chart-topper, while "Hung Up" starts its second week at #1 on the singles chart, her 11th on that tally.

November 19, 2005 "Save Me" by Shinedown, a song about helping someone in need, goes to #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart, where it stays for 12 weeks. It's the band's first #1 on that chart, but they soon become regulars to the top spot, with a run of hits that includes "Second Chance," "Diamond Eyes" and "Cut The Cord."

May 14, 2005 Bruce Springsteen lands his fifth US #1 album as Devils & Dust claims the top spot.

July 10, 2004 American Idol winner Fantasia's "I Believe" debuts at #1 but drops out of the Top 10 two weeks later. She shows staying power, though, with a million-selling debut album and a lead role in the Broadway production of The Color Purple.

February 28, 2004 Usher's club anthem "Yeah!," featuring Ludacris and Lil Jon, hits #1 in America. It stays at the top for 12 weeks to become the biggest hit of 2004.

October 25, 2003 Ludacris becomes the first "Dirty South" rapper to land a #1 album when Chicken-N-Beer hits the top spot, powered by the #1 hit "Stand Up."

June 1, 2003 Staind's 14 Shades Of Gray hits #1 on the US albums chart. It's the meat in the sandwich of three chart-topping albums for the group, following Break The Cycle (2001) and preceding Chapter V (2005).

October 13, 2002 The Spanish sisterly act Las Ketchup scores a UK #1 hit with the strangely infectious "The Ketchup Song." In the US, the song stalls at #54.

June 2, 2002 Pop Idol winner Will Young's version of The Doors' 1967 classic "Light My Fire" hits #1 on the UK singles chart.

November 4, 2001 Michael Jackson's Invincible becomes his seventh #1 album (as a solo artist) in the UK.

June 3, 2001 Shaggy's "Angel" starts a four-week run at #1 on the UK singles chart. His album Hot Shot also goes to #1 on the UK albums chart.

June 3, 2001 Staind's Break The Cycle starts a three-week run at #1 on the US albums chart.

November 5, 2000 U2 score their eighth UK #1 album when All That You Can't Leave Behind tops the chart, keeping Blur off the top.

October 29, 2000 The Spice Girls score their ninth and final UK #1 hit as the double-sided "Holler"/"Let Love Lead The Way" reaches the top of the chart.

October 15, 2000 U2 notch their fourth UK #1 hit when "Beautiful Day" beats out Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue's "Kids" for the top spot.

January 22, 2000 Robbie Williams reaches #53 on the Hot 100 with "Angels," the highest the British superstar will ever place on the American chart.
