June 26, 1943 Thanks to Dooley Wilson's rendition as piano-playing Sam in Casablanca, Rudy Vallee's 12-year-old version of "As Time Goes By" lands at #1 on the charts, where it stays for four weeks.

July 20, 1940 The industry publication Billboard combines their sales charts for the first time, including all major labels. The first #1 is Tommy Dorsey's "I'll Never Smile Again," with vocals by Frank Sinatra.

February 21, 2026 In the wake of his Super Bowl halftime show performance, Bad Bunny's "DtMF" (sung in Spanish) hits #1 in America. It's the first predominantly foreign-language to top the chart since "Despacito" in 2017.

May 31, 2025 On the Hot 100, 37 songs are from Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem album, breaking a record he set two years earlier when 36 songs from his One Thing at a Time album made the chart at the same time.

March 15, 2025 Shinedown's "Dance, Kid, Dance" goes to #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart, making them the first act with 20 chart toppers on that tally. Their run started with "Save Me" in 2005.

January 11, 2025 The Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga duet "Die With a Smile" goes to #1 in America on its way to landing as Billboard's top song of 2025. It's the ninth chart-topper for Mars and the sixth for Gaga.

October 5, 2024 Future becomes the first artist with three #1 albums in the same calendar year when Mixtape Pluto hits the top spot, following his two Metro Boomin collaborations, We Don't Trust You and We Still Don't Trust You.

May 18, 2024 Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us," a scathing diss track directed at Drake, goes to #1 as their feud comes to a head.

May 4, 2024 The top 14 songs on the Hot 100 are all from Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department, with "Fortnight" taking the top spot. All 31 songs from the album are on the chart in addition to an earlier song, "Cruel Summer."

May 4, 2024 After 10 weeks at the top of the Country chart, Beyoncé's "Texas Hold 'Em" gives way to "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" by Shaboozey, a singer who came to the fore when Beyoncé featured him on her Cowboy Carter album.

December 9, 2023 Thanks to a new music video, "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee, originally released in 1958, goes to #1 in America, making Lee, 78, the oldest artist ever to top the chart. And at 65 years, it's the longest a song has ever taken to reach the top spot.

October 28, 2023 Impelled by her Eras Tour concert film, Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer," first released in 2019, goes to #1 in America.

September 9, 2023 "I Remember Everything," a duet where Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves play the parts of ex-lovers torn asunder by his drinking, hits #1 in America. It becomes one of the saddest singalong songs ever recorded.

August 26, 2023 Oliver Anthony becomes the first artist with no chart history to debut at #1 in America when "Rich Men North Of Richmond," recorded outdoors in one take with his dogs nearby, shoots to the top.More

April 29, 2023 Metallica's album 72 Seasons debuts at #2 behind Morgan Wallen's One Thing At A Time, in its seventh week at the top. It's the first Metallica album since ...And Justice for All in 1988 that doesn't debut at #1.

April 8, 2023 Jimin of BTS becomes the first South Korean solo artist to hit #1 in America when his song "Like Crazy" debuts at the top spot. PSY came close in 2012 when "Gangnam Style" went to #2.

March 18, 2023 Every track - all 36 of them - from Morgan Wallen's album One Thing at a Time lands in the Hot 100, breaking Drake's record of 27 set in 2017. Wallen's song "Last Night" claims the top spot.

March 11, 2023 "TQG," a collaboration between Colombian superstars Shakira and Karol G, debuts at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Just weeks after Shakira became the first female artist to open in the Top 10 with a Spanish-language track ("Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions Vol. 53"), "TQG" breaks the record as the highest-charting Spanish-language tune by a female artist in the tally's history.

January 28, 2023 Miley Cyrus' alone-but-happy anthem "Flowers" grows to #1 in the US, where it stays for a total of eight weeks.

November 5, 2022 Thanks to huge streaming numbers, Taylor Swift claims every spot on the Top 10 of the Hot 100 with songs from her album Midnights, with "Anti-Hero" at #1. She's the first artist to do so; Drake held nine of the Top 10 for a week in September 2021.

October 29, 2022 Kim Petras becomes the first transgender singer to top the Hot 100 when her Sam Smith collaboration "Unholy" goes to #1.

December 12, 2020 Bad Bunny's El Último Tour Del Mundo hits #1 on the US albums chart, becoming the first album entirely in Spanish to top the tally.

August 15, 2020 Harry Styles lands his first #1 hit in the US with "Watermelon Sugar," a song he later admits is about "the sweetness of life," but also "the female orgasm."

May 30, 2020 The remix of Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage" featuring Beyoncé goes to #1 in America, giving Megan her first chart-topper. The song got a huge boost on TikTok, where it soundtracked a viral dance challenge during the pandemic.

April 30, 2020 On his 100th birthday, Captain Tom Moore lands the UK #1 hit with a new version of "You'll Never Walk Alone." Moore, a decorated veteran of World War II, raised money for coronavirus relief by walking in his garden. The song was assembled by Michael Ball using Moore's vocals.

December 28, 2019 Fine Line, the second album by Harry Styles, debuts at #1 in the US, making him the first male artist from the UK to debut at #1 with his first two albums.
