2024 Lily Allen launches an OnlyFans site to post photos and videos of her feet (user name: Lily Allen FTSE500). Months later, she says it makes more money than her Spotify streams.

2023 Elton John headlines the Glastonbury Festival, where he tells the crowd it may be his last show in England. A record 7.6 million tune in to watch on the BBC.

2020 The Dixie Chicks change their name to "The Chicks" in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement ("Dixie" is associated with the American South during a time of slavery). Their name was a play on the Little Feat song "Dixie Chicken." The rebranding comes two weeks after another country trio, Lady Antebellum, changed their name to Lady A.

2016 50 Cent is arrested for using the word "motherf-----" during a concert performance in St. Kitts, where it's illegal to use foul language in public. He's granted bail for around $1,800 and is slapped with an unknown fine, though it's probably close to $400, the same price DMX paid for cursing in the Caribbean in 2003. Fiddy's rep blames the DJ, who didn't have a clean version of the offending track.

2012 James Rosemond aka "Jimmy Henchman" is indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, having allegedly ordered a hit on a rival who allegedly assaulted his son. If that doesn't seem like music news, consider that Rosemond was a hip-hop mogul and CEO of Czar Entertainment, manager of such artists as Too Short and Salt-N-Pepa (for their song "Shoop"). Rosemond has also been implicated in the deadly East-West coast "rap war" feud that claimed the lives of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.

2009 Sky Saxon (lead singer of The Seeds) dies at age 71 when an untreated infection leads to heart and renal failure.

2006 Keith Urban marries the Australian actress Nicole Kidman, who was previously engaged to Lenny Kravitz. Kidman inspires many of Urban's songs, including "Got it Right This Time (The Celebration)" and "Once In A Lifetime." They announce their divorce in 2025.

2002 Maroon 5 release their debut album, Songs About Jane, Jane being lead singer Adam Levine's ex-girlfriend. It slowly finds and audience and becomes a surprise hit over a year later thanks to the songs "Harder To Breathe," "She Will Be Loved" and "This Love."

2002 Benson Boone is born in Monroe, a small town in Washington. After building an online following he competes on American Idol but drops out in the round of 24. Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons signs him to his imprint and releases Boone's debut album, Fireworks & Rollerblades, in 2024, which includes the hit "Beautiful Things."

2001 New York City rock band The Strokes' release their debut single, "Hard To Explain." It peaks at #16 in the UK.

1996 Jay-Z issues his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, as the first release on his own label, Roc-A-Fella Records. The first track is "Can't Knock the Hustle," which features Mary J. Blige and tells the story of Jay's come-up in Brooklyn. Roc-A-Fella later partners with Def Jam Records, which appoints Jay-Z president in 2004.

1995 During Elastica's set at the Glastonbury Festival, concert-goer Antony Genn jumps on stage and dances naked for about a minute while the band plays on.

1994 With grunge still going strong, Stone Temple Pilots debut at #1 in America with their second album Purple. It holds the top spot for three weeks, dethroned by The Lion King soundtrack.

1993 Just a year after forming, Weezer sign with the major label DGC Records. Their self-titled debut album ("The Blue Album") is released the following year and takes off thanks to the hits "Buddy Holly" and "Undone - The Sweater Song."

1988 Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Hillel Slovak dies of a drug overdose at age 26.
