May 20, 2003 Lynyrd Skynyrd release Vicious Cycle, their twelfth studio album. It's the last to feature work by bassist Leon Wilkeson, who passed away during recording. Kid Rock appears on the album in a remake of "Gimme Back My Bullets."

May 6, 2003 Fall Out Boy release their debut album, the pop-punk effort Take This To Your Grave.

March 25, 2003 Linkin Park release Meteora, the follow-up to their smash debut, Hybrid Theory. The nu-metal album features the hit singles "Numb" and "Breaking The Habit."

February 25, 2003 Having recently signed with Columbia Records, Switchfoot release The Beautiful Letdown, their major-label debut album.

February 6, 2003 50 Cent drops his major-label debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin', a joint release on Eminem's Shady Records and Dr. Dre's Aftermath label. It includes two #1 hits: "In Da Club" and "21 Questions."

November 18, 2002 Shania Twain issues her fourth album, Up!. It's her last album produced by her husband Mutt Lange, as the couple divorce in 2010. Up! sells an astounding 11 million copies in America, which is still only half the tally of her previous album, Come On Over.

October 1, 2002 Good Charlotte release their second album, The Young and the Hopeless.

September 30, 2002 Faith Hill releases "Cry," the title track from her latest country pop album. It's another crossover success for the country singer, landing at #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and giving her a second win for Best Female Country Vocal Performance (the first being for "Breathe").

May 14, 2002 Rush release Vapor Trails, their 17th studio album and first since the deaths of Neil Peart's daughter and wife five years prior.

May 7, 2002 Tom Waits releases the albums Blood Money and Alice on the same day. Blood Money contains songs used for a Robert Wilson production of the unfinished play Woyzeck by German playwright Georg Büchner, while Alice contains mostly songs written for Wilson's adaptation of a play also named Alice. They're his 13th and 14th studio albums.

February 19, 2002 Ten months after his death, Joey Ramone's only solo album, Don't Worry About Me, is released. He worked on it at the end of his life while battling lymphoma.

November 20, 2001 Pink releases her breakthrough second album, M!ssundaztood, which includes the hits "Get The Party Started" and "Family Portrait."More

October 30, 2001 Lenny Kravitz releases his sixth studio album, Lenny, featuring his fourth Grammy Award-winning hit, "Dig In."

October 23, 2001 Bush release Golden State, a commercially disappointing album. The group goes on hiatus in 2002, returning with the album The Sea of Memories in 2011.

September 18, 2001 Tori Amos releases Strange Little Girls, a concept album where she sings from the perspective of the female characters in songs written by males, including Eminem's "'97 Bonnie And Clyde," Neil Young's "Heart Of Gold," The Beatles' "Happiness Is A Warm Gun," and The Stranglers' "Strange Little Girl."

September 8, 2001 Kylie Minogue releases the single "Can't Get You Out Of My Head," with a "la la la" chorus that does indeed burrow into the brain. A global smash, it's her first big hit in America since "The Loco-Motion" in 1988.

August 28, 2001 Weezer release "Island In The Sun," the second single from Weezer (aka The Green Album). It's a very tranquil song for the band, a stark contrast from the first single, "Hash Pipe." It becomes the most-licensed song in their catalog, showing up in The Simpsons, The Sopranos, and Trolls Band Together.

August 28, 2001 Mary J. Blige releases her fifth studio album, No More Drama.

August 14, 2001 Michelle Branch, 18, releases her breakthrough album The Spirit Room, with the hits "Everywhere" and "All You Wanted."

July 24, 2001 Jimmy Eat World release their fourth album, Bleed American, featuring the tracks "The Middle" and "Sweetness." The album is re-titled Jimmy Eat World after September 11.

July 18, 2001 Weezer release "Hash Pipe," the first single from Weezer (aka The Green Album). Described by frontman Rivers Cuomo as a "totally insane" song, it still gets plenty of airplay, although the title is a little too druggy for MTV, who display it as "H*** Pipe."

July 3, 2001 Sum 41 release their debut single, "Fat Lip." The song goes on to top the Modern Rock Tracks chart.

June 25, 2001 New York City rock band The Strokes' release their debut single, "Hard To Explain." It peaks at #16 in the UK.

June 20, 2001 The Cult return with their seventh studio album, and first new recording in seven years, Beyond Good and Evil.

May 15, 2001 Weezer release their third album, which like their first, is called Weezer - it becomes known as "The Green Album" and their debut is called "The Blue Album." The Green Album comes five years after their previous album, Pinkerton, and is a lot brighter, getting the band back on the radio with songs like "Hash Pipe" and "Island In The Sun." It's not the last self-titled Weezer album - the Red, White, Teal and Black albums all follow.

March 17, 2001 Seven Pearl Jam bootleg albums from their North American tour debut in the Billboard 200 albums chart, breaking the record for most appearances on the chart in a single week that the band established the previous year, when five bootlegs from their European tour landed on the chart.More

February 27, 2001 Dave Matthews Band release Everyday, trading producer Steve Lillywhite for Jagged Little Pill mastermind Glen Ballard. With the hit "The Space Between," the radio-friendly release expands their fanbase, but leaves diehards to seek out the unreleased Lillywhite Sessions.

October 31, 2000 Lifehouse release their debut album, No Name Face. The first single, "Hanging By a Moment," takes off, becoming the most-played song on American radio in 2001.

October 31, 2000 OutKast release their fourth album, Stankonia, featuring the #1 hit "Ms. Jackson."

October 24, 2000 Lenny Kravitz releases his Greatest Hits album. Peaking at #2, the release marks his highest entry on the US albums chart. It also features the track "Again," which earns him his third consecutive Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance.
