November 20, 2001 Creed release their third album, Weathered. The lead single, "My Sacrifice," finds frontman Scott Stapp reconnecting with his better self, but he continues to battle mental health issues and depression, and the band breaks up in 2004. They return in 2009 to make one last album, Full Circle.

October 30, 2001 Barbra Streisand releases Christmas Memories.

October 23, 2001 Incubus release their fourth album, Morning View, named for Morning View Drive, the road they lived on in Malibu while making it. The lead single is "Wish You Were Here," inspired when lead singer Brandon Boyd was looking out on the Pacific Ocean.

September 25, 2001 For the first time ever, the Recording Academy agrees to accept a downloadable single for Grammy consideration. Virgin Records releases two singles: "Dig In," by Lenny Kravitz and "God Gave Me Everything" by Mick Jagger, which are released to digital retailers via Liquid Audio.

September 10, 2001 Jo Dee Messina releases "Bring On The Rain," which becomes an anthem of grief and resilience after the terrorist attacks the next day.

August 28, 2001 With nu-metal still alive and well, Puddle Of Mudd release their debut album, Come Clean. It sells over 3 million copies thanks to the hits "Blurry," "Control," and "She Hates Me."

August 7, 2001 Usher puts out his third album, 8701, the title a reference to the release date. It includes two #1 hits: "U Remind Me" and "U Got It Bad."

May 15, 2001 God Bless the Go-Go's, the Go-Go's fourth album, is released. It is the band's first studio album in 17 years.

May 8, 2001 Sum 41 release their debut studio album, All Killer, No Filler.

March 27, 2001 Bruce Springsteen releases Live In New York City, the accompanying album to an HBO concert film that follows the Boss and his E Street Band on a ten-show tour, ending at New York City's Madison Square Garden.

March 26, 2001 Gorillaz release their debut self-titled album, which becomes a surprise chart success in the US. Although the band's vocalist, Damon Albarn, is well known in Europe through his band Blur, he is virtually unknown in the States, leading to low expectations for the release. The album eventually sells over a million copies in America and peaks at #14.

November 13, 2000 In the UK, The Beatles release 1, a compilation of 27 British and US #1 tracks.

October 24, 2000 Nelly Furtado, 21, releases her debut album, Whoa, Nelly!, which includes the self-written hits "Turn Off The Light" and "I'm Like A Bird."

September 26, 2000 98 Degrees' new album Revelation is premiered in US Wal-Mart stores via an exclusive satellite broadcast concert.

September 26, 2000 Creed lead singer Scott Stapp launches his With Arms Wide Open Foundation with a fundraising re-release of the song "With Arms Wide Open."

September 20, 2000 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is released a year after its popular predecessor. The skateboarding video game features a mix of punk, metal and hip-hop on its soundtrack, including Bad Religion's "You" and the Anthrax/Public Enemy collab "Bring The Noise."

September 12, 2000 LL Cool J popularizes the phrase "GOAT," meaning the Greatest Of All Time, with the release of his eighth album, G.O.A.T., where he claims that title. The album lives up to its billing, going to #1.

August 14, 2000 Nineteen-year-old Craig David releases his first album, Born To Do It, which debuts at #1 on the UK Albums chart and becomes the fastest-selling debut album by a British male solo act.

June 20, 2000 Deftones release their third album, White Pony. An aural journey into darkness, it holds up as one of the best metal albums of its time and earns the band their only Grammy Award: Best Metal Performance for the song "Elite."

May 2, 2000 Aimee Mann releases her album Bachelor No. 2 Or, The Last Remains Of The Dodo independently after Geffen Records lets her go. It's a sluggish market for singer-songwriters; the "dodo" in the album title is a reference to how Mann thinks they're going extinct.

May 1, 2000 David Gray's album White Ladder, which has been available in Europe for over a year, is finally issued in America as the first release on Dave Matthews' new label, ATO Records. It goes on to sell a million copies there; ATO goes on to sign Crowded House, Brandi Carlile, Alabama Shakes and many other big names.

November 16, 1999 Korn release their highly anticipated fourth album, Issues, which includes "Falling Away from Me." It debuts at #1, joining albums by fellow nu-metalers Limp Bizkit and Rage Against The Machine on the list of 1999 chart-toppers.

October 26, 1999 Incubus release their breakthrough album, Make Yourself. The big hit is the third single, "Drive," which takes the long road and peaks at #9 in July 2001.

October 5, 1999 Paul McCartney releases Run Devil Run in the US.

September 29, 1999 Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk launches the video game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater with a punk and ska soundtrack that introduces gamers to acts like Goldfinger, Dead Kennedys, Primus, and The Vandals.More

May 11, 1999 After releasing four Spanish-language albums, Ricky Martin releases his first in English, Ricky Martin. It includes the mega-hit "Livin' La Vida Loca," his American breakthrough.
